Сёрфинг от англ. surf — Прибой, Прибойная волна, это катание на волне на специальных лёгких досках. Существует несколько сходных видов спорта, различающихся используемыми техническими средствами:

виндсёрфинг — катание на доске под парусом,
бодисёрфинг — катание на волне вообще без доски, и другие.

Различают сёрфинг на длинных (около 3 м) досках, коротких (от 180 см) досках, tow-in сёрфинг (доски снабжены петлями для ног, чтобы не упасть с доски так как на большой волне очень сильный чоп и серфер много времени проводит в воздухе. Для вывода их на глиссирование с волны применяется буксировка за, например, водным мотоциклом.

Лонгборд (англ. longboard) — это скейтборд с измененной формой деки (доски). Колеса у лонгборда большого диаметра (от 60 до 80 и более мм.) и маленькой жесткостью. Это позволяет лонгборду развивать большие скорости и при этом идти мягко, практически не замечая небольших неровностей асфальта. На доску устанавливаются подвески аналогичные скейтовым, но гораздо шире, что придает устойчивость.
